“This is the kind of development that shapes a community for generations to come.”
BURLESON, Texas (Oct. 7, 2025) — The city of Burleson and Groundwork Development Partners are thrilled to announce a transformative partnership that will bring a premier, multi-generational master-planned community, Tallgrass, to the city’s western gateway. Spanning more than 621 acres at the interchange of the Chisholm Trail Parkway at FM 1902, this visionary development represents more than $1 billion in investment and will deliver approximately 4,000 new residential units and 1 million square feet of commercial development in a dynamic, multi-generational, mixed-use community.
Tallgrass is designed to be more than just a neighborhood — it’s a destination. A place to connect with family and friends, celebrate art and nature, pursue career opportunities, and enjoy an exceptional quality of life. Anchored by the motto “Where Roots Run Deep,” Tallgrass reflects a deep commitment to community, heritage and future growth
The development’s strategic goals include:
- Offering a high quality of life for residents of all ages
- Supporting diverse and high-quality housing options
- Enhancing environmental sustainability
- Fostering community connectivity
- Creating vibrant employment and retail opportunities
- Celebrating local culture
- Ensuring long-term community viability
In addition to residential housing, the project will feature a future elementary school, more than 1 million square feet of employment, retail and commercial space, and a signature town center. Residents and visitors will also enjoy five miles of trails and 90 acres of parks, open space and community amenities, making Tallgrass a true live-work-play environment.
Groundwork Principal Steven Spears, FASLA, AICP, PLA, said, “The vision for Tallgrass is a true legacy effort that interconnects the needs of social, environmental, educational and economic values. We are excited about what Tallgrass will bring to the city of Burleson, north Johnson County and the Parkway corridor. The vision will take the right set of partners, and we look forward to each partner contributing to making this vision a reality for the citizens, businesses and guests of Tallgrass.”
“The land has meant so much to our family for generations. This place represented a respite from daily stresses and somewhere we could take a deep breath, connect with nature and rebalance. Therefore, it was important to us that any future development carried with it our family’s relationship to the land for future residents. In partnering with Groundwork and the city of Burleson, we will be able to accomplish these goals,” noted Brandi Armstrong Reckling.
Tallgrass is at the heart of two significant planned transportation improvements: 1) the four-lane expansion of the Chisholm Trail Parkway and 2) plans to expand FM 1902 to a four-lane divided roadway. This key interchange sets the stage for substantial residential development, significant regional and local commercial and employment opportunities — all integrated with trails, parks, schools and restored tallgrass prairie landscape — truly becoming the future western gateway to Burleson, Texas.
