The Tumble Club backflipped onto the Burleson scene a little over 13 years ago, and has since grown to be such an important part of the community it was voted Local Love’s Favorite Kid Friendly Business.
Tawny Smith, owner of The Tumble Club, has been cheering since high school and cheered collegiately at both Navarro College and Sam Houston State University. Her years of experience—and passion—for the sport led her to coaching, and after encouragement from the parents of her students she decided to open her own gym. That idea has become The Tumble Club, a friendly, large, bright blue building neighboring the Antique Mall in Burleson.
The Tumble Club offers a number of different classes and focuses, and tries to diversify student’s options as best they can to set them apart from other facilities. The gym has classes for any skill level from ages 3 to adult, so age is no matter here! Since class sizes are generally smaller than traditional gyms, each student receives a uniquely personal teaching experience to better help every student grow in their abilities.
On top of the classes, The Tumble Club hosts various events in their 8,000 square foot space. Open gym is held a couple times a month from 7-9 p.m. Cost at the door is only $8, and provides a great opportunity for kids to jump, play or practice specific skills while parents can go out and take a little “me” time. If your kid is a gymnastics fanatic, or just looking for a large space to run around and play in with their closest friends, The Tumble Club offers birthday parties on weekends! In addition, you can rent the entire facility out for private events or celebrations, be it a graduation party or a lock-in.
Thirteen years ago, the building had to be completely renovated to fit Tawny’s vision. Now, it houses not just a gym, but a supportive community of students, parents and instructors. Most of the instructors at The Tumble Club are cheerleaders themselves, either high school or college students with experience cheering at varsity and collegiate levels. Like most of the staff, Smith holds a day job as a teacher so The Tumble Club is only open in the evenings.
As the business has grown over the years, Smith says the most important thing to The Tumble Club is the students. The instructors care about these tumblers, cheerers and dancers, and their overall goal is to help them reach their own goals. For example, in anticipation of upcoming cheer tryouts, The Tumble Club offers various cheer prep to help the students as much as possible.
Tawny Smith and her staff of dedicated instructors have built an ever-growing family of athletes who build each other up to better their skills. Truly, this gym is a passion project of the owner who cares about it greatly, and has become a space for students to feel at ease when working with instructors on their chosen sport.
