1836 SENIOR BENEFITS is a small firm born and raised in North Texas, and was created from a desire to serve those who live in the Crowley-Burleson area. Stephen and Shaun Slaughter, brothers who were looking for a way to create something that serves the community, saw that there was a need for seniors in the area to have a partner they could trust when it came time to understanding and accessing the benefits they have earned and are entitled to.

We got a chance to talk to Shaun a little bit about their business, how it came to be, and why it works, “I love being able to serve the community that we live in. When we can make a difference in the lives of the people that live, worship, play and work near you it feels like we are doing our small part to make this community a better place to live.” The company that began in the tumultuous year that was 2020, has received excellent confirmation that what they are doing is working when they saw their client base triple because of referrals and word of mouth marketing, “It seems like a pretty good indication that we are doing something right for our clients.”

The family-run business works hard to serve their clients by simplifying the oftentimes confusing and time-consuming process of accessing one’s benefits, and breaking it down into language that is easily understood and steps that are simple to take. They listen intently, are knowledgeable about what options are available, and work to educate their customers about what the often-convoluted landscape of Senior Benefits really looks like. They help their clients with every aspect of their retirement needs including financial security, how to protect your health, how to plan your estate and how to preserve your freedom of choice. They specialize in helping clients who fall into each of the following categories: those who are just turning 65 and rolling onto Medicare for the first time, those who are dual eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare and those who have been on Medicare for a while and simply would like to see if they are eligible for more benefits or able to save more money.

When asked what makes their business stand apart from others like it, Shaun responded “We saw that in many cases, seniors are taken advantage of. We wanted to be able to provide a trusted partner that not only helps them get what they need, but also what they want. At the heart of what we do is a deep desire to treat our clients like they are family. We are willing to meet with them in person, by phone, or even on a web meeting – whatever they prefer. We put our client’s needs first before anything else.”

This spirit of service to the community does not end when the business day is done, Shaun is also very active at First Baptist Burleson and you can typically find him in the sound booth running the audio for the Modern Services. He also happens to serve on a board of a non-profit called Rise Collective, a group that is working diligently in the anti-trafficking space, with the goal to help stop trafficking before it even occurs.
