Jennifer Lovelace of Lovelace Law P.C. believes estate planning isn’t about preparing for death. It’s about protecting the people you love.

No one wakes up excited to make a will.

In fact, most people spend years putting it off. Life gets busy. The conversations feel uncomfortable. There always seems to be something more urgent than planning for a day no one wants to think about. Jennifer Lovelace understands that. Every week, she sits across from families who have been saying the same thing for years.

“We’ve been meaning to do this.”

Rather than judgment, they find reassurance.

“Everyone, every time, feels relief once those documents are complete and in hand,” Jennifer says. “People don’t enjoy thinking about their own death or the death of someone they love. But once they have a plan, they feel a tremendous sense of peace.”

For Jennifer, estate planning has never been about paperwork. It’s about people. It’s about making difficult conversations a little easier, protecting the people you love, and helping families avoid unnecessary stress during life’s hardest moments.

Jennifer didn’t always practice estate planning. Early in her legal career, she worked in civil litigation representing individuals and businesses through disputes. While the work was challenging, it wasn’t where she found her purpose.

“I constantly represented arguing individuals and companies, and it just didn’t fulfill me,” she says. “Knowing that death is something we will all face, I wanted to help people prepare for it and help families navigate what happens afterward.”

That doesn’t mean conflict has disappeared from her work. Jennifer still represents clients in will contests, trust disputes, and probate litigation when necessary. “I’ll absolutely fight when I need to,” she says. “But thoughtful planning today can prevent many of tomorrow’s conflicts.”

One of Jennifer’s greatest passions is guiding people through situations they’ve never experienced before.

“You don’t know what you don’t know,” she says. “Most people have never gone through the probate process until they’re grieving someone they love. If I can provide comfort and make that process easier to understand, then I’ve done my job.”

That sense of relief is what keeps her going.

“When clients tell me I’ve eased their minds and helped them understand something they didn’t understand before, that’s when I know I’ve made a difference.”

Jennifer also spends a great deal of time correcting misconceptions. Many people believe estate planning will be overwhelming or that they need a detailed list of every asset before meeting with an attorney. Others assume trusts are necessary for everyone because of what they’ve seen on social media.

“I love those conversations,” Jennifer says. “Not everyone in Texas needs a trust. But for blended families, people who own property in multiple states, or families with more complicated situations, they can be an excellent tool. My job is helping people determine what’s best for them.”

She encourages every adult to have a basic estate plan that includes at minimum a will, a medical power of attorney, and a statutory durable power of attorney.

“Those three documents cover the needs of most people and provide protection both during your lifetime and after you’re gone. However, some people should consider adding trusts, certain types of deeds, pre-designations of guardians, or other documents to their estate plans.” Jennifer prides herself on giving tailored, rather than cookie-cutter, advice depending on her client’s actual needs and goals.

Planning Is an Act of Love

She frequently encounters do-it-yourself wills downloaded from the internet that contain missing provisions, unclear language, or fail to distribute property the way the person intended. Jennifer has seen firsthand what happens when families don’t have a plan. “I once heard a judge say that everyone has a will. The question is whether you write it yourself or let the legislature write it for you.”

Without proper planning, surviving families can face expensive court proceedings, delays, and heartbreaking surprises.

Jennifer is also seeing an increase in guardianship cases as more families navigate Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, strokes, and the growing challenges that come with an aging population. Some of the hardest cases involve elderly clients who have lost significant savings to financial scams.

“It’s heartbreaking,” she says. “Watching someone lose a lifetime of savings because they trusted the wrong person is incredibly difficult.”

Those experiences reinforce something Jennifer believes deeply: estate planning isn’t really about death. It’s about protecting people while they’re living and caring for the people they’ll someday leave behind.

A Legacy of Peace

Jennifer believes families shouldn’t have to leave Burleson to find exceptional legal guidance. Many of her clients are grieving. Others are making some of the biggest decisions of their lives. Having someone local who understands both the law and the community brings comfort during an already difficult season.

Outside the office, Jennifer is usually cheering on her teen and tween at volleyball matches and cheer competitions, squeezing in yoga or Pilates, or planning her family’s next vacation. She knows life moves quickly, which is exactly why she encourages families not to wait.

“We draft estate plans to work through many different circumstances,” she says. “I encourage people to pull out their documents every few years or after a major life event. If everything still makes sense, wonderful. If not, it’s time for an update.”

In the end, Jennifer hopes people leave her office with more than signed documents. She hopes they leave with peace of mind.

Because the greatest gift you can leave your family isn’t money.

It’s clarity. It’s protection.

It’s knowing the people you love won’t have to wonder what you would have wanted.
